Habitat ReStore reduces number of items going to landfills, reducing the carbon footprint. Generating more income to build more safe, affordable homes for more families in Lake County. The Habitat for Humanity of Northwest Indiana connected with our team late 2021 with a need to expand their existing Griffith ReStore facility in Gary, Indiana. Without hesitation, our team took on this project as a part of our Community Giveback initiative. Habitat ReStore reduces the number of items going to landfills, reducing the carbon footprint. This generates income to build more safe, affordable homes for more families in Lake County.

Project Description
Our Off-Site Construction division built components for this project including all the metal exterior wall panels with aluminum clad siding. This approach supported efficient construction as prefabrication and assembly of building elements was completed in a controlled environment before those components were installed at the final construction site in Gary, IN.
We understand how challenging it can be for nonprofits to undertake projects like this, which is why our Community Giveback Program exists. Our goal is to make it simple and attainable for them. Tonn and Blank’s Design team created renderings to allow a visual representation of how to best accommodate Habitat for Humanity’s needs. Tonn and Blank’s self-perform team completed the entire addition buildout including concrete, framing, roofing and exterior wall panels. Our field team ensured all construction activities, including concrete, roofing, and the wall panels prefabricated in our Off-Site Construction facility went smoothly.
The Griffith ReStore now has an additional 3,500 square feet of space to accommodate their storage needs to serve more families in the Lake County community.
