Outstanding Project Safety Award Recipient
Tonn and Blank Construction proudly announces its receipt of the prestigious Outstanding Project Safety Award from the Coalition for Construction Safety (CCS) for the exemplary practices demonstrated during the construction of the Franciscan Health Crown Point Replacement Hospital. This esteemed accolade, presented to the Owner-Contractor team, underscores Tonn and Blank’s unwavering commitment to safety and excellence in construction.
The CCS Outstanding Project Safety Award recognizes projects that exhibit an exceptional dedication to safety across all facets of construction. Evaluated by a panel of judges, this award acknowledges the collaborative efforts of project stakeholders in fostering a culture of safety and achieving outstanding performance. The winners were announced at the Annual CCS Awards Celebration held on April 25, 2024, at the Scottish Rite Cathedral in Indianapolis.
The Crown Point Replacement Hospital stands as a testament to Tonn and Blank Construction’s commitment to excellence in healthcare and commercial construction. Situated on a sprawling 136–acre campus in Crown Point, IN, this landmark project represents a collaborative endeavor between multiple partners from diverse industries, including healthcare, academic, and commercial sectors. With an investment exceeding half a billion dollars, the development promises to serve Hoosiers for generations to come.

The construction of the Crown Point Replacement Hospital involved meticulous planning, innovative construction methodologies, and stringent safety protocols. Tonn and Blank Construction leveraged its expertise in virtual design and construction (VDC) to streamline project coordination and mitigate potential clashes, facilitating seamless collaboration among multiple stakeholders. Through the implementation of industrialized construction methodologies, including prefabrication and off-site construction, the project team optimized labor efficiency while enhancing construction precision.
From the onset, Tonn and Blank Construction prioritized the well-being of its workforce, implementing robust safety programs, initiatives, and policies to mitigate hazards and prevent incidents. With a workforce of 400 tradespeople, effective coordination and communication were paramount, necessitating the establishment of clear communication channels and management systems to ensure awareness of tasks, deadlines, and changes in plans.
