Project Description

Tonn and Blank completed the comprehensive renovation and expansion of the Long Beach Country Club, transforming it into a modernized facility while preserving its historic charm. This complex project showcased our self-performance capabilities, including carpentry, concrete finishing, excavation, roofing, and ironwork.

Scope of Work

The project encompassed multiple facets:

  • 2,000 SF Outdoor Pavilion: Constructed next to the pool area with timber-framed trusses, roof decking, and a concrete slab. During excavation, it was discovered that the piling supporting the hillside was failing, necessitating emergency shoring and a complete rebuild. Tonn and Blank essentially engineered the solution to stabilize the area, ensuring long-term safety and durability.
  • 3,500 SF Kitchen Renovation: This involved a total demolition and remodel of the existing second-floor kitchen, including new quarry tile flooring and installation of state-of-the-art kitchen equipment. The first floor was also partially renovated to accommodate new cooler and freezer units.
  • 400 SF Two-Story Addition: Added to enhance the clubhouse’s functionality and guest experience.
  • 800 SF Pool Equipment Building/Snack Shop/Storage: A new structure supporting pool operations and guest amenities.
  • 600 SF Pool House Bathroom Remodel: Complete modernization of existing restrooms and showers.
  • 600 SF Outdoor Terrace: Expanded the outdoor gathering space with high-end finishes and scenic views.

Challenges and Solutions

One of the most significant challenges was the discovery of structural issues, including a failing retaining wall and cracked, uneven decking near the pavilion area. The complexity of shoring up the hillside required innovative engineering solutions, which our team expertly executed. Additionally, the logistics of craning equipment into the site were complicated by the limited access and difficult terrain, further showcasing the team’s problem-solving abilities.

This transformative renovation revitalized the Long Beach Country Club, enhancing member experiences with modern amenities while preserving its historic charm. The new pool, pavilion, bar, and expanded kitchen have become central gathering points, greatly improving the club’s functionality and aesthetic appeal.
